THE GIRL FROM THE EAST
The Girl from the East is a culmination of a musical journey and features seven live pieces from Chao Tian’s Artist-in-Residence (AIR) concerts at the Strathmore Mansion in April 2018. Her time as an AIR at The Music Center at Strathmore was a vital and unforgettable experience, opening up a whole new innovative world for her. From East to West, Chao has broken through boundaries with her music.

THE WAY
The Way is inspired by the very important philosophy of Taoism called Wu Wei, it means action through inaction and refers to the behavior that conforms to the resolution through profound thinking. This approach to a current situation will subsequently find its best way to a positive resolution of conflict.

PROJECT LOREA
Project Locrea is a world-folk fusion ensemble dedicated to creating and performing original compositions and contemporary arrangements inspired by folk music of different countries. Combining sound and instrumentation of world folk traditions with classical, jazz and contemporary music conventions, the project’s focus is to bring a deeper connection between cultures in current days.

FROM CHINA TO APPALACHIA
GRAMMY Award winning American Roots artists Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer join with Chinese classical hammered dulcimer player Chao Tian in a show that combines music from China to Appalachia and beyond. Instrumentation includes yangqin (Chinese hammered dulcimer), gourd banjo, five-string banjo, ukulele, guitars, dumbek, cello-banjo and mandolin.
